Welcome to Churches Together in Kenilworth and District!

Within the town of Kenilworth there are a large number of Christians spread around a number of different church based communities. Churches Together in Kenilworth and District (CTKD), affiliated to the wider body Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, exists to help unite all Christians within the body of Christ through shared worship and witness.

Like other Churches Together in the UK, ours is a voluntary fellowship of different churches in Kenilworth and Leek Wootton. The Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist and United Reform Churches have all signed a declaration

  • to take further our acts of united prayer and worship;
  • to seek a united vision of God's concern for our needs in the area of mission to our town;
  • to develop ecumenical projects and provide information of our own church activities for mutual use;
  • to assist in social projects undertaken by member churches.
In practice, it shares worship, prayer, evangelism, social concern at home and abroad to the extent to which participating congregations are willing. For example, it arranges several united services each year, pupit exchanges by the clergy, Christian Aid collections, a Good Friday Walk of Witness, Lent Study Groups, Prayer Support and shares in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and Civic Services. It encourages individual churches to share what is happening in their circle with others so that good ideas are not confined to one group or tradition and the gospel message can be carried more effectively to non-churchgoers.

CTK has a loose organisational structure. Each church is entitled to send two representitives to meetings of the Council, together with the clergy. Others are co-opted to represent groups, such as the Uyogo Link, Christian Aid and KYFC. The Council meets three time a year and uses a small Programme and Worship Group to plan most activites.

It aims to issue a Newsletter three times a year carrying details of joint activities and things individual churches are taking part in.

CTK Activites

United Services
Regular evening services are arranged during each year to mark significant occasions e.g. Advent Sunday, Ash Wednesday. These rotate around the Churches, with each service usually containing contributions from the different traditions. The services are usually prepared by a working group representing all of the churches. The host church arranges refreshments so that there is an opportunity to meet and talk after the service.
Shared Lent Study Groups
Ecumenical study groups meet during Lent and cover the same course in five sessions. Groups are arranged in a variety of places and at different times spread thoughout the week. A united service usually opens or closes the course, at the beginning of Lent or during Holy week, to bring together the experiences of all the groups.
Walk of Witness
On Good Friday a short service is held in Talisman Square (the central shopping square in Kenilworth) followed by a walk to the Abbey Fields carrying the Cross. The Cross is erected in the Abbey Fields and remains a mark of witness for the whole Easter season.
Kenilworth Youth for Christ
The local director Tom Millington is supported by contributions from the churches and individual donations. There is also a team of volunteers who pray regularly for this work. Tom maintains contact with young people in Kenilworth in the schools, streets and churches of the town. He runs three different youth clubs each week, as well as an after school club every Monday at KMC. KYFC also has a cell structure for groups of young Christians to arrange their own worship and fellowship, known as BLESST.
Christian Aid Week
CTK coordinate the Christian Aid Week collection and arrange which streets each church will be responsible for.

Methodist Church representatives on CTK are currently Jon Burrows and Martin Johnson.
